If you’re thinking of backing Shut Up & Sit Down’s expansion to the party game “Don’t Get Got” but you don’t have the original, you’re in luck. The base game is now essentially included in the expansion.
On Oct. 20, Big Potato’s Kickstarter campaign released the “stretchy goal 1.5” update, something in the way of an apology for a mix-up in shipping costs. It includes all 186 missions from the original game at even the lowest pledge level, bringing the total missions included in the game to 306.
Fast Facts about Don’t Get Got
- Players accommodated: 2-10 (theoretically up to 20 with expansion)
- Stated play time: 30-1440 minutes (I did not mistype that)
- Lower age limit: Box says 14, community says 10
- Rulebook length: 3 bullet points
- MSRP: $20
- Lowest Kickstarter pledge for expansion: $26 + $13 shipping
The components listed on Amazon (which is one of the few U.S. retailers selling it), consist of “188 mission cards, 8 custom Wallets, Instructions.” You also get a weird cubical box that looks like it doesn’t close properly.
The expansion on Kickstarter has its own wallets and own sets of instructions. It has a more common rectangular-shaped box. And the only thing exclusive to the base game—the mission cards—is now bundled with the expansion as well (at least through Kickstarter).
So don’t be concerned if you’re not seeing a pledge level that includes the base game. They all do.
“Don’t Get Got” is a party game that gives everyone secret missions to complete, which must be performed with (on?) an unassuming, trusting friend. One of its marketing points was that you can play other games or do other things while playing “Don’t Get Got.” The game can operate in the background as everyone playing becomes increasingly paranoid about people pulling pranks on them. Hence the box suggesting that you can play the game for 24 hours (but apparently not longer).
The expansion to “Don’t Get Got” is being designed by the folks at Shut Up & Sit Down, the popular YouTube channel that reviews games. This unusual pairing has raised over $170,000 from nearly 4,300 backers at time of publishing, and the campaign is scheduled to finish on Nov. 15.
Big Potato estimates that backers will see their pledge fulfilled around mid-April.
