Practically everyone who wanted to buy Lorcana cards at PAX Unplugged was able to do so. That may not sound revolutionary, but it is a big step up from where Lorcana has been over the past few months.
When publisher Ravensburger debuted Lorcana at GenCon earlier this year, Illumineer Troves and beginner decks sold out the first day, and booster packs sold out the second. Most people at GenCon were not able to experience Lorcana, even if they wanted to.
The general supply has had an even worse showing. The First Chapter set has been out of stock practically everywhere online since day one, and in many offline places as well. Illumineer Troves can be found going for hundreds of dollars on the secondhand market.
Collectible card games need to have some degree of artificial scarcity to make the cards worth something–those shiny Charizards wouldn’t sell for thousands of dollars if they came in every pack. But the state of Lorcana has far exceeded that level, and Ravensburger has acknowledged as much.
Back in August, Ravensburger announced it would be repriniting The First Chapter, as well as increasing production for future sets. And thus far it seems to be working–if you want to buy Lorcana cards now, you *probably* can.
