The Bag of Holding, a remnant from the internet of yore, is getting new life with a Kickstarter run by Rollacrit, starting this week.
Rollacrit has become an increasing presence in the tabletop space in recent years. It was the Gen Con merchandise partner for the past three years, and published a drinking dungeon crawler called Heroes of Barcadia (2022), which at time of writing has a 7.6 on Board Game Geek.
Gamers may be less aware that Rollacrit, in many ways, grew out of ThinkGeek, a site that sold nerd and video game tchotchkes in the 2000s internet era. One of ThinkGeek’s popular offerings was the “Bag of Holding,” a large messenger bag with an assortment of pockets and a big D20 on the front.
Though popular, the bags weren’t especially durable, and tended to develop holes or zipper problems after a few years. Unfortunately, gamers who liked their bags and wanted to replace them were out of luck after Gamestop bought the brand in 2015 and proceeded to neglect it. But the reincacrnated Rollacrit is now introducing a Bag of Holding 2.0 and emphasizing its more-durable construction.
“Everyone’s bags that you see now are either destroyed, taped together, or selling on eBay for $120. So we decided to bring it back. There’s a market for it, and we’re in the space now,” Rollacrit CEO Erin Zipperle told The Tabletop Tribune.

Zipperle, the former marketing manager of ThinkGeek, said they were more interested in making an “invincible bag” than they were about hitting a price point. Still, the bags will launch at a Kickstarter-exclusive $125, approximately the same as Zipperle’s stated resale value for the original bag.
However, he also noted the company’s focus on durability this time around.
“We spent a year and a half literally tearing this bag apart. As the samples came in, we’d just stand on it and pull on it. If something broke: Fix that, fix that. We broke the zippers–fix that.”

The new bag can be worn like a backpack and has seven pockets. It boasts triple stitching, reinforced zippers, and a built-in rain cover.
The company will launch a Kickstarter campaign for the revived bag on September 5, and you can currently see more details about the bag on Rollacrit’s website.
