Atomic Mass Games, Asmodee’s dedicated miniatures studio, took over development of the Star Wars Miniatures products on Monday, the company confirmed in a release. The move will impact “Star Wars X-Wing,” “Star Wars Armada,” and “Star Wars Legion,” which had previously been managed by Fantasy Flight Games, another Asmodee subsidiary.

The move isn’t necessarily indicative of Fantasy Flight’s performance, as key members of its current development team are moving to Atomic Mass. Crucially, Simone Elliott, who managed Fantasy Flight’s relationship with Lucasfilm since 2015, will lead Atomic Mass as Head of Studio.

“Joining them will be key members of the teams involved in the creation and evolution of Fantasy Flight’s current ‘Star Wars’ miniatures games,” Asmodee said in the release.

In a bigger shift, Will Shick, the designer of the Marvel: Crisis Protocol miniatures game, will assume primary creative direction over the games as Head of Product Development. This means previous developers like Legion’s designer Alex Davy or Armada’s producer Michael Gernes won’t necessarily be involved anymore.

Fantasy Flight Games could not immediately be reached for comment.

Currently, Atomic Mass Games’ only known game is Crisis Protocol, as their existence was not public until GenCon 2019. Fantasy Flight, meanwhile, has produced hundreds of well-known titles and even more expansions, and is one of the biggest names in the tabletop industry.

“Combing their talent with the strength of our current Star Wars miniatures games and the limitless possibilities of a galaxy far, far away is going to lead to incredible new experiences for tabletop gamers and ‘Star Wars’ fans to enjoy,” Steve Horvath, Asmodee Head of US Publishing, said in the release.
