The minds behind “JourneyQuest” and “The Gamers” are bringing us a campaign setting before the end of the year.
Zombie Orpheus, the production company behind cult classics like “JourneyQuest” and “The Gamers,” is releasing a deluxe campaign setting book to be delivered by the end of the year. Zombie Orpheus. The Kickstarter campaign, which ends tonight, has so far been funded for nearly $46,000 from 510 backers.
In addition to the campaign setting, “The Fartherall Companion” includes art and history by Matt Vancil, the creator of JourneyQuest and The Gamers. The Kickstarter campaign says the team tried to keep the setting as rules-neutral as possible so that it could fit into a range of TTRPG systems.
“This book is intentionally rules-agnostic, but contains enough detail to adapt cleanly to your game of choice. From the schools of magic to dozens of fantasy races, you and your party can find infinite ideas and adventure hooks within these pages,” the team wrote on the Kickstarter page.
Backers were able to order a Deluxe copy of the book with a leather cover and silk pages if they pledged $100 or more. A smaller pledge of $50 would get backers a soft-cover copy, and $20 would get them the finished PDF. Zombie Orpheus claimed that the orders will be fulfilled by mid-December.
The Gamers and, to a lesser extent JourneyQuest, were some of the earliest forms of what we now recognize as RPG shows, like “Hello from the Magic Tavern” or “Dungeons and Daddies.” The Gamers movie (2002) and its sequel (2008) cut back and forth between the gamers sitting at their table, and their characters live roleplaying. It had some elements of a fantasy or medieval show but the characters always spoke as if they were playing Dungeons and Dragons. This was a fairly new concept in the 2000s.
Fans looking to inject that nostalgia into their games will be pleased to have this companion.
