North Star Games announced that its popular “Oceans” game will delve beyond science and explore the mythical in its next expansion, “Legends of the Deep.” It remains to be seen how deep the designers will go with this, but the publisher specifically mentioned Merpeople, flying whales, and Cthulhu.

From the release:
Legends of the Deep will bring high fantasy into the Oceans ecosystem. Each player will have 4 over-sized Empire cards at the start of each game that can be played instead of a trait. Empire cards affect every one of your species. For instance, the Flying Whales empire might say “Each of your species gets “Forage 5. May store 5 extra population. Cannot be attacked by a species with a Deep trait.”

It’s an interesting design decision for a series that has thus far sold itself as educational about the environment. Let’s see how it plays out for them, Cotton.
North Star is scheduled to begin a Kickstarter campaign for the expansion in mid-2021. In the meantime, it is discounting the rest of the series by 20% with the code 20DIVEDEEP if you buy from Amazon or the publisher’s website.
That being said, if you are interested in purchasing Oceans, its expansions, or any of the other games in the “Evolution” franchise, please consider patronizing your friendly local game store to support them in this challenging economic time.
